When the creek goes dark

Eight browser games
for nights after the panning

Once the sun drops behind the red walls of the gulch and the pan is rinsed for the day, Jubal props his boots on a crate and opens a browser tab. His eight free games run from a whole boomtown economy and a sprawling zoo to tank mazes, a pirate fleet, castle wars, a space trade route and two very different dungeon trips. Nothing needs installing, and none of them charges a cent to begin.

TankTrouble key artAction & arcade

TankTrouble

Top-down tank duel

  • A few short rounds
  • Desktop browser; mobile app also available
Good for & first steps

Good for: Anyone after a fast duel with a friend in the same room.

Your first session
  1. Play a few rounds against a friend to learn how shots rebound.

Lords & Knights key artStrategy & war

Lords & Knights

Medieval castle strategy

Pardus key artSpace & sci-fi

Pardus

Space trading MMO

  • Desktop browser
Good for & first steps

Good for: Busy players who still want a competitive universe.

Your first session
  1. Pick one way of earning, such as mining or trading, and learn it well.

  • Desktop browser
Good for & first steps

Good for: Players who want to steer every swing themselves.

Your first session
  1. Try each class briefly before committing to a build.

Gladiatus key artRole-play & adventure

Gladiatus

Roman arena RPG

A Roman arena game built around expeditions that run down on a real-time clock and return with gear and gold. Arena duels against other players resolve automatically, and dungeons hold the rarer equipment, so a quick daily look is enough to make progress.

  • A handful of minutes, a few times daily
  • Desktop browser
Good for & first steps

Good for: Players who prefer short daily check-ins to long sessions.

Your first session
  1. Send your gladiator on an expedition right away.

Price for all eight: free to play, though each one has optional in-game purchases.

01

Free from the very first shovel

Each game here can be started free and played for months; the battles, voyages, enclosures, trade routes and markets all belong to the free version.

Shops do exist inside them, selling premium currency, cosmetic odds and ends and shortcuts past a timer. Plenty of players never set foot in one, and a household on a shared computer can normally switch spending off from the game's own account page.

02

Your first night out on each trail

Each button here leads to the game's official home in a fresh tab. Expect a quick sign-up with most of the eight before your ship, castle, zoo or company shows up.

Almost every one opens with a tutorial trail. Walk it all the way, since it maps out controls and resources quicker than poking around the canyon on your own.

03

Games that keep working while you pan

Virtonomics settles its turn once a day, Gladiatus expeditions run on a clock, and the castles of Lords & Knights keep building while you are away. Checking in over morning coffee and again after supper covers most days.

TankTrouble and Drakensang Online are the opposite: they only move while you play. Save them for a free half hour, and keep the slower evenings for big decisions in the builders.

04

Guard your sign-ins like a claim deed

Each game keeps its own front door, so enter your login only after checking the address bar shows that studio's real site. Give each game its own password, and turn on the extra sign-in code by text or app wherever a studio supports it.

Genuine help desks never ask for your password. Treat any stranger promising free gems or gold for your login the way a prospector treats a claim jumper: walk away.

Why these eight made it into Jubal's pack

  • Every one opens in a normal desktop browser tab, so the first battle, enclosure or trade happens with nothing to set up.
  • All eight are free to join, and the main game stays open to anyone who never visits a shop.
  • The pace ranges from one decision a day to frantic maze duels, which leaves something for a sleepy night and a restless one.
  • Each studio is still running and updating its game, so the maps, markets and seas stay busy with other players.

No. All eight run in a desktop browser. Virtonomics, TankTrouble and Lords & Knights offer an optional phone app as well; My Free Zoo, Seafight, Pardus, Drakensang Online and Gladiatus are desktop browser games.

No. None of them charges an entry fee, the full main game is playable on zero dollars, and any shop visit is your own call.

No. Outside studios create and host every title here; the buttons just point you to their own websites.

No. Eight different studios run them, which means eight separate sign-ups if you try the lot.

Virtonomics, Gladiatus, Lords & Knights and My Free Zoo keep moving between visits. TankTrouble and Drakensang Online only run while you are playing.

My Free Zoo, with its unhurried enclosures, or Gladiatus if you only have a few minutes a day. TankTrouble and Drakensang Online are the loudest and quickest of the eight.
